AI pilot to help detect brain disorders at Mumbai’s KEM Hospital

 

MUMBAI: A new artificial intelligence-based pilot project at Mumbai’s KEM Hospital is set to explore how technology can help doctors detect and assess brain disorders more accurately and at an earlier stage.

The pilot will involve 150 patients with conditions including epilepsy and brain tumours. AI-based assessments will be used alongside existing medical investigations to assist doctors in evaluating patients and tracking changes in their condition.

The system will analyse medical information including MRI and CT scans as well as EEG data. The technology is expected to help identify patterns in the data that may support doctors in diagnosis and follow-up care.

The project is being undertaken as part of efforts to introduce advanced technology into public healthcare and improve access to specialised medical assessment.

Doctors will continue to remain involved in interpreting the results, with the AI system being used as an additional tool rather than as a replacement for clinical decision-making.

The pilot is expected to run for about 12 months. Its findings will help authorities assess whether the technology can be expanded to other municipal hospitals.

If successful, the programme could provide a model for using AI-assisted medical assessment across a larger public healthcare network.
