The Adani Group has announced an investment of more than ₹4,000 crore to develop a 2,000-bed not-for-profit healthcare facility in West Bengal.
The proposed Adani Arogya Mandir will come up in New Town, Kolkata, and will include a hospital, medical college and facilities for advanced medical research. The foundation stone for the project was laid in Kolkata on Thursday.
Of the planned 2,000 beds, 1,000 will be reserved for economically weaker sections covered under state and central government health insurance schemes.
The project is expected to create more than 10,000 jobs across the healthcare ecosystem in the state, according to the group.
The proposed medical institution is part of a wider investment plan announced for West Bengal. The group has outlined plans to invest more than ₹1 lakh crore in the state by 2035 across different sectors.
The healthcare project is expected to combine hospital services with medical education and research. The inclusion of a large number of beds for economically weaker sections is intended to expand access to treatment for patients covered by government health insurance programmes.
The announcement comes as healthcare infrastructure continues to expand in both public and private sectors, with increasing emphasis on access to specialised treatment, medical education and research.
The proposed facility will add another large healthcare institution to the New Town area and is expected to become part of West Bengal’s wider healthcare ecosystem once completed.
